About Me

Originally born and raised in Rochester, NY, I have been living in Toronto since the fall of 1990.

Since coming to Canada, I continue to learn a lot about different cultures, business, making new friends and just, simply, living a different way of life north of the border. I have always been involved in crafts and I think it was my parents’ way to keep me home and out of trouble…ha ha.

From the time when I was a little girl, I always found myself fascinated with cross stitch. When my mother would take me to the local mall’s craft store, I would see the framed x-stitch pictures mounted high up on the wall which always looked so detailed, clean, neat and perfectly centred.

About the age of 19 or so I got into cross stitch to take my mind off of things and just relax and de-stress after a long day at work or tiff with the boyfriend. Over the years, I began listening to audiobooks while stitching. Just so you know…history repeats itself which can be a good thing.

In the 6th grade, my art teacher used to play comedian records while the class worked away at string art, paper mache, etc. Sometimes it is good that history does repeat itself because to this day I have been able to absorb more books than I have time to sit down and read directly.

After 3 years and as of the end of 2015, I met my personal goal of obtaining my Honours university degree. And now that I’m finished with one goal it is on to the next and beyond!  Woo hoo!  Right now I am enjoying my arts, crafts, friends, family and of course, my two awesome Shetland Sheepdogs.

    • Dear brushes and papers, thank you SO much for sending that video!

I had no idea that Henry VII wore his wealth and also did some of his own embroidery upkeep.

Queen Victoria was a patron of the School of Needlework and her daughter, Princess Helena was the president of the school as well.

Also George VI’s cape was embroidered for his coronation and even Queen Elizabeth’s special clothing was carefully hand-stitched as well.

It is nice that there are all kinds of students in all age groups inclusive of both genders. I was surprised to learn that the school even offers a 3-year degree…who knew??

Even Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, veil and train was embroidered by the school!

Wow!! I never would have found that video. Thank you so much for sending 🙂 I really appreciate it.

      • You are very welcome. I always have a very happy memory of my mom’s embroidery while growing up. We all would get a set of matching pillow and bolster cases hand stitched every new year. Pink for girls, blue for boys and my parents used white fabric cases. The best thing was, We all could chose our own design on the cases too. *it was CBS news not NBC sorry.

  5. Your cross stitch work is gorgeous! What a difference framing makes too. It’s one of those crafts I’ve never been able to commit myself to, but I certainly admire the work of those who do it.

  9. There’s no better stitcher, you make my life richer! There– you’ve moved me to poetry, and that takes some doing, my dear Ramona… : )

And I hereby declare your wholly, and utterly unique blog title, to be the most creative in blogging history!! And the translation is every bit as enjoyable! : )

  10. Hi Ramona – just wanted to say ‘Hi’ – you’ve popped into my place quite a few time – but there doesn’t seem to be much cross stitch happening at your place lately – the same pieces have been on the front page for quite a bit. Hope it’s just a complicated and difficult project and you’re not too busy to fit stitching in these days.

    • Hi PD! Great to hear from you!! Yes, I’ve been stuck on this huge cross stitch since the spring and it is taking a lot longer than anticipated since I’m in university full time (including over the summer). I may switch into updating the blog with smaller pieces while I finish the large Lanarte WIP quietly in the background. I really appreciate you sticking around my cross stitching blog very, very much :0)
